National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA)

Greetings all:

To make things simpler, and for those who have yet to receive the NYAA booklet, this post should provide you with the necessary information to help you complete your booklet.

The NYAA (Bronze) is categorized into 4 sections:
  • Service
  • Adventurous Journey (Expedition)
  • Skills
  • Physical Recreation

SERVICE SECTION


AIM: To learn how to give useful service to others
  • To make young people aware of the needs of others and the place of voluntary services in our community
  • To train young people to give useful service to our community
  • To provide young people with opportunities of performing service, with regular commitment and effort.
CONDITIONS

BRONZE: At least 15 hours spread over a period of 3 months

TYPES OF SERVICE (please choose 1 for this section)
  • Assist in NPC
  • Care for the animals in SPCA/Zoo/ Jurong Bird Park
  • Civil Defence
  • Conservation Project
  • Fund Raising Projects
  • Youth and Outreach Work
  • Tutorial Projects
  • Helping in Senior Citizens' Club (BBHA)

ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY SECTION


AIM: To encourage a spirit of adventure and discovery
  • To provide young people with an opportunity to take up a challenge, to undertake a venture with a specific purpose, such as participating in an expedition, exploration or other adventurous project.
  • To develop an awareness of the environment and the importance of protecting it.
  • To provide opportunities for team-work, self-reliance, determination, co-operation and development of individual qualities.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Participants must plan, train for, and undertake a venture which involves travel by personal effort with a clearly defined purpose.

BRONZE: 2 Days outing including 1 night in tent or shelter, with at least 12 hours of effort or activity.

Participants could either undertake an expedition or an exploration project.

  • Canoeing Expedition
  • Cave Expedition
  • Cycling Expedition
  • Jungle Expedition
  • River Expedition
  • Sailing Expedition
  • Trekking Expedition
  • Mountain Climbing
EXPLORATIONS

Explorations involve less journeying and greater proportion of the time spent on approved, first hand investigations or other specified activities.

Explorations have to be undertake in the context of an expedition and involve a minimum of 10 hours journeying.


SKILLS SECTION


AIM: To encourage the development of personal interest and practical skills.
  • To stimulate young people to take up and persevere with satisfying and purposeful pursuits within a wide range of practical, cultural and social activities.
  • To encourage commitment, effort and perseverance within the young person's own capabilities.
CONDITIONS

BRONZE: At least 6 months

PHYSICAL RECREATION SECTION


AIM: To encourage participation in physical recreation and improvement of performance
  • To encourage young people to take part in and enjoy physical recreation in hope that it will lead to healthy life-long habit.
  • To encourage self-discipline, perseverance and the motivation in the individual.
CONDITIONS
  1. Select 1 activity and participate regularly for the required minimum period
  2. Show improvement assessed on the basis of effort, progress and performance.
  3. The minimum number of hours required to qualify for each level of the Award is as follows:
BRONZE: At least 20 hours over the spread of 8 weeks

ABOUT
CTSS Student Council
The CTSS ctudent council was formed in 2005 under the leadership of Benedict and Salleh. Its purpose, to be a bridge of communication between the student body and teachers, has been passed on for many generations til now. This blog, originally created by Stephanie Ho of the 2nd Student Council, serves the functions of keeping councilors in the loop of any current or upcoming events.
